As a business owner and CPA, I feel that it is important to be involved in the community and to make it a better place.  The Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce offers a program that allows participants to learn more about Wilmington and to continue to develop their leadership skills be leading a large community service day (Work on Wilmington).  We have full day sessions once a month where we focus on learning about specific aspects of Wilmington, NC and the surrounding areas.  On Tuesday 9/13/11 our session focused on Arts and Culture.  We visited WHQR, Thalian Hall, The Cape Fear Museum, Jengo's Playhouse, and took a downtown walking tour.  It is amazing how easy it is to overlook all these great resources in Wilmington when you live here day in and day out.  It was my first visit to the Cape Fear Museum and Jengo's Playhouse (where we learned about the film industry and Cucaloros).  My takeaway from the day was to make more of an effort to take advantage of these cultural amenities as a thriving art and culture scene can be attractive to people and businesses thinking about relocating to Wilmington.
